What's the advantage of low-voltage?
Low voltage cannot hurt you. That is why it is called "non-hazardous" and "shockproof'. UL calls this voltage Class 2. Additionally because they use direct current (not alternating current) in their heater, the question of EMF's goes away completely. No one in the scientific community has ever questioned the safety of direct current EMF's. Consumer research states that SAFETY is the #1 purchase driver for this type of product.
What type of testing does this product go through?
In addition to visual and electrical checks throughout the process, at final inspection all these products receive a thorough visual and electrical inspection. Additionally they are UL and cUL listed which means they have gone through and continue to go through rigorous testing and even abusive and life testing at the UL laboratories to assure safety.
Why have other manufacturers of warming products not upgraded their rough scratchy fabric?
We do not know. One theory is that they are "appliance people" who don't understand what consumers want as well as an experienced top of the line bedding company. Another theory is that they have millions of dollars invested in these old acrylic weaving machines and don't want to idle them.
How much money will this warming product save me on my heating bill?
Your savings will depend upon how many degrees you turn your furnace thermostat down while sleeping. You should save at least 1 % of your heating bill for every 1 degree you set your thermostat back at night. For example, if you set your thermostat back 5 degrees by using your warming product for 8 hours, you should save 5% on your monthly heating bill. Many people can save even more while sleeping better in a cooler environment.
Does this product have enough electromagnetic field to worry about?
This mattress pad uses direct current (from the power supply), not alternating current. While some scientists think AC electricity may cause certain health problems, DC electricity has never been thought to pose any health problems.
I have partial disability and have trouble grasping and seeing things. Will I be able to use this controller?
Relating to ease of use for the partially disabled, the controller knob is easy to grasp and easy to turn. The ON-OFF switch requires practically no force to depress and the controller's rubber feet easily keep it from sliding. Easy to read - giant backlit numbers on the handsome updated control that will blend in to any bedroom's decor. The backlight is bright in a well-lit room and automatically dims itself in a dark room. No other controller will do that. Automatically resets to desired temperature after the pre-warming phase. Suppose the user sets the controller at #4. When the blanket is first turned on each night, it will preheat on HI until #4 warmth is achieved and then automatically hold at #4 for the rest of the night. This computerized controller is the only one on the market with the automatic preheating connected to the setting on the dial.
My old blanket's user instructions said not to leave the control close to a heat register or drafty window. Where can I locate your controller?
Independent of room temperature -- No matter where located (e.g. close to a heat register or an open window) this control's accuracy is not affected (conventional electric blanket controls are affected greatly and some will not even work above 70 degrees F according to their own User Manuals).
I don't like heavy blankets/quilts on top of me. What do you recommend?
The Soft Heat® Fleece Heated Blanket is the lightest electric blanket around. It's so light and comfortable that most users will leave it on their bed all year round. Alternatively the Soft Heat® Heated Mattress Pad radiates heat from underneath so you can use any bedding you prefer on top.
My old blanket could be put in the washer and even in the dryer for a few minutes but then it had to be pulled back into shape. Yours?
Our competitors' acrylic blankets not only pill but also shrink when dried (partial drying only allowed) and require hand stretching to bring them back to size. Ours do not - straight from the dryer to the bed, completely dried. No line draping required unless you want to.
Will these warming products cost much to run?
Even on HI, these products use about as much energy as a 75 watt light bulb (each side on dual models). In fact it's a proven fact that warming blankets/pads will save energy! Why? You can turn your thermostat down and still stay toasty warm. For each degree you turn down your home thermostat for 8 hours at night, you will save more than 1 % on your monthly heating bill. For example, if you reduce your thermostat by 5° (easy to do with this warming blanket) you will save 5% on your heating bill each month. An additional benefit to turning your thermostat down is that most people sleep much better in a cooler room.
Can anyone use these new products?
No, not anyone.
1) Electric bedding products should not be used with infants, invalids, anyone who cannot operate the controls properly, anyone insensitive to heat (e.g. a person with poor blood circulation) or anyone who cannot understand the basic directions given in the User Manual.
2) Electric bedding products should not be used on sofa beds, pull out beds, mechanically adjustable beds, air beds or water beds.
3) This product is not meant for commercial use (hospitals, hotels, etc.).
